Horny Goat Weed by ProLab Nutrient Profile

  1. Niacin (80 mg) has shown an ability to help improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as providing some cardiovascular improvements. Trials seem to suggest that the dyslipidemia sufferers enjoyed increases in circulating LDL-C after regular niacin supplementation. Also known as vitamin B6, the human body relies on this nutrient to enable it to perform more than 100 enzyme reactions concerning the metabolism. Moreover, one study was surprised to find massive increases in growth hormone immediately after exercise.
  2. Horny Goat Weed (Icalrin Flavones)(Whole Herb)(Standardized To 10% Icariin) (500 mg), aka “Epimedium” has traditionally been used in Chinese medicine as an aphrodisiac and an erectile aid. Existing studies have been conducted on animals, some of which have suggested potent testosterone enhancing properties. Unfortunately, effects on humans are currently unknown, and as a result, its testosterone enhancing potential remains a grey area.
  3. Maca 4:1 Extract (Lepidium Meyenii)(Root) (250 mg) originates in parts of South America, and has been used in countries like Peru for over 3000 years. It is often associated with chronic fatigue alleviation, as well as providing benefits to anaemics. Some athletes seem to hold the view that maca can help to improve athletic performance. However, at present there is no evidence to substantiate these suggestions.
  4. Tribulus Terrestris Extract (Fruit)(Standardized To 40% Furostanol Saponins) (250 mg) is a type of herb belonging to Ayurveda. It’s long been traditionally used to help promote male vitality and virility. It’s widely accepted that this ingredient is a powerful libido enhancer, but when it comes to influencing testosterone, repeated studies have suggested it appears to do very little.
  5. Ginkgo Biloba Extract (Leaf) (Standardizsed To 24% Flavone Glycosides; 6% Terpene Lactones) (120 mg) is a type of herb that is suspected of enhancing brain health. Although existing studies have delivered a mixed bag of results, one large study involving 2487 subjects over the age of 65 were given 120 mg twice daily over the course of five years. The study failed to find any great benefits in terms of staving off Alzheimer’s.
  6. Yohimbe Extract (Pausinystalia Yohimbe) (Bark) (Standardized To 2% Yohimbine) (100 mg) is recognized as a fat burning compound. According to this study, a 20 mg daily supplementation over the course of 21 days noted decreases in body fat. Disturbingly, yohimbe has shown to trigger anxiety symptoms, as well as adverse reactions to certain medications in some individuals.

Effectiveness

The mere suggestion that Horny Goat Weed contains testosterone boosting ingredients is a bit of a fallacy. Only two ingredients can be even remotely associated with testosterone enhancement, Horny goat weed and tribulus terrestris.

Horny goat weed has only been tested on animals thus far. Although it’s been successful in increasing testosterone in rats, effects in humans is currently an unknown quantity.

Moving onto tribulus terrestris, this ingredient is all too often touted as possessing some amazing testosterone boosting qualities, but in actual fact, only one study out of dozens has indicated very trivial improvements in is hormone.

The remaining ingredients have absolutely no correlation to testosterone enhancement whatsoever. Okay, you may experience increases in your sex drive but that’s as far as this supplement goes.

So in a nutshell, not a single ingredient is a proven testosterone booster.

Horny Goat Weed by ProLab Overall Rating

As stated earlier; Horny Goat Weed by ProLab doesn’t contain a single proven testosterone enhancing ingredient. Moreover, this supplement contains Yohimbe, which is proven to trigger anxiety in some individuals.

On the whole, I feel this product is not very good, and this is probably reflected in the price.
