P6 PM (By Cellucor)

By  |

P6 PM is “designed to support free testosterone and better sleep for enhanced recovery”. The primary ingredient is tribulus terrestris.

According to Cellucor, the P6 blend “a central to the formulas potency, with a set of ingredients that help your mind and body relax into your natural sleep cycle”.

P6 PM by Cellucor Nutrient Profile

  1. Vitamin B6 (As Pyridoxide Hydrochloride) (10.5 mg) is naturally found in certain foods, and the human body depends on this vitamin to enable it to perform more than “100 enzyme reactions” to do with the metabolism. According to one study, daily vitamin B6 supplementation can help to boost the growth hormone immediately after working out.
  2. Magnesium (As Magnesium Aspartate) (450 mg) is an essential dietary mineral that performs many functions. A deficiency in magnesium is known to cause high blood pressure, as well as other things. A magnesium deficiency is currently skyrocketing in Western countries. According to studies, daily magnesium supplementation can help to regulate glucose levels, as well as help to provide “significant improvement during physical stress”. Moreover, bone mineral density benefits immensely from magnesium supplementation.
  3. Zinc (As Mono-L-Methionine And Aspartate) (30 mg), just like magnesium is an essential mineral that works to regulate certain enzymes. It is believed that zinc normally leaves the body through sweat during exercise, and this possibly explains why zinc levels are so low immediately post-workout. It is widely acknowledged that zinc is a respectable libido enhancer, as well as a formidable testosterone booster, especially in males already suffering from zinc deficiency.

P6® PM Blend (855 mg)

  1. Tribulus Terrestris whole herb extract, is a type of herb that belongs to the Ayurveda plant family. It is traditional uses have been to help promote male virility and vitality. It is widely accepted that tribulus is a potent libido enhancer, but in terms of testosterone enhancement, it appears to do very little, and this is contrary to claims that you may have heard.
  2. Suntheanine® L-Theanine is a type of amino acid that is considered to be a relaxant, without sedating an individual. Thus far, existing studies have failed to identify any major benefits when it comes to anxiety, as seen in this example. A completely different study involving a 200 mg daily supplementation also “failed to influence state anxiety”, as illustrated here.
  3. Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) aerial parts extract contains high levels of chrysin, which is effective in increasing testosterone if injected directly into the testicles. For some reason, I don’t see this happening!
  4. GABA (y-Aminobutyric Acid) is described as the “downer” neurotransmitter that helps to counter can glutamate, which is seen as the “upper”. Gaba is important for brain health, but oral ingestion has thus far been tricky to work out due to its complex nature.
  5. Melatonin (N-Acetyl-5-Methoxytryptamine) is a type of hormone that’s secreted in the brain, and is concerned with sleep regulation. It is common to find melatonin supplementation as a mean to aid sleep. According to this study, melatonin managed to reduce insomnia symptoms in children suffering from the condition.

P6 PM appears to be a well thought out night-time supplement. It contains all the essential tools for maintaining healthy hormone levels including testosterone through vitamin B6, a great growth hormone booster, magnesium, fantastic for enhancing workouts, and zinc,  a widely accepted potent testosterone boosting mineral.

Then we move onto the proprietary blend, which essentially hides the exact amounts of each ingredient used therein. I have never been a fan of proprietary blends, and I still feel the same after reviewing what looks like a pretty decent product.

The blend contains tribulus terrestris, which won’t do much in terms of testosterone enhancement, but is definitely a great libido enhancer. The remaining ingredients (L-theanine, gaba, and melatonin) are associated with sleep enhancement, and generally offer relaxant properties. The only thing that doesn’t make sense in this supplement is the inclusion of passionflower, which contains chrysin, and element shown to enhance testosterone when injected directly into the testicles.

P6 PM by Cellucor Overall Rating

On the whole, P6 PM is a pretty decent supplement. The ingredients indicate it does what it claims.

The only letdown for this product in my opinion is the proprietary blend. Proprietary blends hide the precise ingredient amounts used in supplements and as a result, it’s impossible to tell whether P6 AM is sufficiently dosed.
